The Andech’s Monastery is a fine Baroque church, in a rural Bavarian setting. It’s a monastery that serves hearty food and delicious German beer. It crouches quietly with a big smile between a couple of lakes in Bavaria just south of Munich.

The cuisine includes tender chunks of pork, the infamous German pretzels, spiraled white radishes, sauerkraut and their local monk-made beer.

The food portions are huge, and two people can easily split a meal. There is a nice outdoor “picnic style” area to eat (and drink of course) that offers incredible views of Bavaria. The pricing won’t break the bank here either, this is a highly recommended stop by TravlingCheaply.

Don’t forget your camera, as the views, and the church itself are quite picturesque.

The church is where Carmina Burana (Carl Orff) is buried.
